Of course, she is one of the best pianists on earth, but she is not stable
in her performances .Sometimes (in live performance) she is great, but
sometimes not, especially when she is in a bad mode. She is a lovely
temperamental woman. Here comes the opinion about critics, musician
critics, scholastic critics , musician scholastic critics, and No musician
scholastic critics, and every posible combination. Normally Schonberg is
a very clear mind critic, and enough open mind to accept points of view
different than his ones . On the other side from my own experience in my
opinion, Dean Elder is a very scholastic and no "creative" musician (but
with a good amount of culture of course). For this reason i could suspect
maybe Martha played that concert very good but not with the deep she
normally use to do,and maybe for this reason for Elder it was OK. In
other words maybe for Elder it was "in style". Regards:
