For me, Art of the Fugue is wonderful music, but not for every day. I
have performances in Cello, Harpsichord, Orchestra, Piano, Jazz ensemble,
and Chamber orchestra. My favorites are the piano and cello versions.
Sometimes Gould is the only performance I can listen to. Other times only
other pianists will serve the day.

I also was disappointed when I first listened to the entire Art of
the Fugue on piano. I think this is a work that requires rigorous re
examination. Listen to it in different performances about 15 times and
I guarantee you will discover it has grown on you.

Do we have a Don Satz review of the many many versions of the Art of the
Fugue available? Don? If not, I am confident he will get to it soon.
