With the recent discussion about CD catalogs, I thought I'd publicize
my own catalog.  Over the past couple months, I have been working on an
application to help organize my CD collection.  Originally designed as
a web application, I have rewritten it to be a stand-alone program.

The program allows for practically every detail of a particular piece
of music to be cataloged.  It's also easy to cross reference between
fields to say find all pieces with a particular composer, conductor,
ensemble, or soloist.

The latest feature I've added is the ability to rip pieces from CDs
to FLAC files.  It uses all of the piece information to set the correct
tags in the ripped files.  Unlike CDDB, it works on a per-piece basis,
not an entire CD.  So far, it's the only payback for entering in all of
the movement information, which can be quite verbose.  The rip feature
currently only works on the Linux or other Unix style operating system.

Adding support for Windows may be difficult due to the lack of
available command line tools to perform the rip.  If anyone knows of a
good one, I can look into adding support.

try it out.  The .zip file contains the program, IlCatalogo.jar, and a
snapshot of my collection, IlCatalogo.ilc.  Just double click on the
.jar file to run it.  You will need to install the Java 5.0 runtime
environment available at http://www.java.com first.
