The New York Virtuoso Singers To Perform Judith Lang Zaimont's "Parable:
A Tale of Abram and Isaac" On Their "American Gems" Concert Of October 24

On Sunday, October 24, 2005, 4 PM at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church
(at 73rd St.), the New York Virtuoso Singers, conducted by their Music
Director Harold Rosenbaum, will present "American Gems", a concert of
works by American composers, including Judith Lang Zaimont's "Parable:
A Tale of Abram and Isaac", along with several World and New York
premieres.

"Parable: A Tale of Abram and Isaac" for soprano, tenor and baritone
soli, chorus SSATTB and organ was written in 1986 and is based on the
Brome Mystery Play, with additional text by Wilfred Owen. Concert
selections will also include music by George Crumb, George Tsontakis,
both of whose birthdays will be celebrated, and others.

Special guests for this concert will be Ann Crumb, soprano (daughter of
the composer) and Walter Hilse, organ and piano.

Tickets for the October 24 concert may be purchased at the door. Suggested
donation: $10; Students/Seniors: $8. For reservations or more concert
information, please contact the New York Virtuoso Singers at (914)
763-3453. There will be a panel discussion with the composers at 3 PM,
free to ticket holders.

This concert continues a long tradition by the choir of performing works
by established American composers alongside those of emerging composers.
The New York Virtuoso Singers, now in its 17th season, is this country's
leading professional choir specializing in contemporary music. With
concerts, tours, collaborations with orchestras and opera companies,
recordings, and its commissioning program, the choir promotes the music
of living composers, mostly American. In the summer of 2003, NYVS made
its second appearance at Tanglewood's Festival of Contemporary Music.
Their Music Director Harold Rosenbaum also conducts The Canticum Novum
Singers, now in its 32nd season, and is Director of Choirs at University
at Buffalo. For more information, visit their webpage at
