I have just been exploring Poulenc. The other day I was listening to
the nearest PBS station and through the dissonance I heard his Aubade.
I came in about half way through the first movement. Had no idea who
wrote it and was making guesses. None fit. I stayed in my car after I
got home to makie sure I found out who the composer was. When they said
Poulenc I went in to check my collection and, lo, there were no orchestral
discs of his music in my collection. I corrected that oversight and
ordered a disc of several of his works on London/Decca with Dutoit, the
Orchestrre National de France and Pascal Roge. This music is memorable
and utterly unique. Whilst I can hear referenece here and there to other
composers, he takes that moment and goes somewhere else. This ability
to take expectation and then surprise is the heart of good music.

Anyway, I was just thinking about things and put on this disc. Neat
stuff.

I probably won't add anything to this discussion but I will read responses.

Neat stuff.
