But in this case (and especially regarding the context here) the German
is essential:

   "Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, daruber muss man schweigen."

I don't know a decent English synonym for the verb "schweigen", but it
means "to not speak", it doesn't (necessarily) mean to remain silent.
I think I'll adopt this variation (and Nina Costanza may concur):

   "Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, daruber muss man spielen."

(If you can't say it, play it.)
