Menuhin at no.6?? I don't wish to suggest the slightest disrespect for
his work as a humanitarian or as an ambassador for other musical cultures,
or even for some of his earlier performances, but every time I ever saw
him (from around 1965 onwards) I felt his playing failed to live up to his
reputation, sometimes by an embarrassingly large margin. He would be hard
pushed to get into my top 600.

>No Marsalis, Christian Lindberg, Moravec, Evelyn Glennie, Kipnis,or
>Stolzman.

Don, are you serious about Glennie? I can think of half a dozen much
better all-round percussionists in the UK alone. I hope her qualities as
a promoter of percussion and her hearing loss aren't getting confused with
her qualities as a player and musician.

>Overall, the lasting impression I have is how many superb artists there
>have been in this century. The 21st century should be even better.

I'll go along with that.
