David Harbin on Sinopoli:

>Sometimes the results were risible, for example the awful Elgar recordings
>with the Philharmonia....

I would agree regarding the 2nd, but not Elgar's 1st. Sinopoli lets Elgars
score breath in a magnificent way--without every hyperventilating. I also
enjoy his Enigma Variations, including the outrageously slow but thrilling
coda. Awesome.

>I love Sinopoli's Salome. The orchestra takes on real character.
>Listen to the neurotic itchy sound in Herod's final scene with Herodias
>or the dark howl of delight from the horns when Salome finally gets John
>he baptists head. Also, his Elektra is a controversial classic.

Completely in agreement here. His Elektra come off my shelf a lot. Those
Vienna horns....

My Sinopoli favorites:

Elgar's 1st Symphony DG
Salome and Elektra DG
Mahler 7th (you heard me ;) DG
Scriabin Symphony 3/Poem of Ecstasy DG
Puccini's Madame Butterfly DG
