I realize I am a little late in posting on this thread, but here goes.
The times that I have performed "America" from West Side Story, it was
in alternating 3/4 and 6/8 measures giving three distinct beats of 2
eight note duration and two distinct beats of 3 eighth note duration.
1.2.3-4.5.6 1.2-3.4-5.6 with the lenght of all eight notes the same,
resulting in displacement of emphasis on alternate measures. I enjoyed
it greatly, still do in my old age.

Jim
