I suppose you mean as a symphonist.  I agree that Mahler is perhaps the
greatest in that category -- but there are all those others: chamber,
concerto, solo piano, and more.  Those are all categories of music that
Mahler never entered, and where Beethoven seems to continue unchallenged.
