As far-away San Francisco is being flooded (mostly by TV reporters
standing on the beach, pointing to dark clouds and shrieking about the
approaching *RAIN*), thoughts turn to Dresden and the Semperoper. So,
inquiring from the temporary safety of sunny and bone-dry Palm Springs,
I got the following information:

There have been limited performances in the damaged Dresden house already,
but it will close for repairs January-March. It is *hoped* that "Siegfried"
will be added to the cycle beginning on March 23, but Bychkov cannot
meet the schedule, so Michael Boder will conduct. "Gotterdammerung" is
due at the end of August, and the full "Ring" will be staged Spring '04
(most likely with Bychkov again), almost a year late... but emerging
from the mud anyway.
