No kidding! I've heard it played by two different orchestras to thundering
applause, but alas! Like so many of Rouse's great works, they have yet to
be released--although more than one have been recorded commercially.

It is a great tragedy that the Violin Concerto, Rapture, Kabir Padavali and
the Alberich, works beloved by all but New York audiences, lie gathering
dust while every work of Glass, Adams, Rautavaara and others immediately
hits the shelves.

I just read that his Pulitzer Trombone Concerto is being performed yet
again, this time at the Aspen festival. Fortunately the BIS recording
still is available, but the superior Alsop RCA disk with the incomparable
"Gorgon" (well, it IS comparable to Leifs' "Hekla")is out of print.

Until Rouse's works become more available in recordings, you'll just have
to travel to hear them. If at all possible, try to attend the Cabrillo
Music Festival Festival in Santa Cruz, California this August. They'll
be playing several of his works, including the Cello concerto. For more
information, you can look at www.cabrillomusic.org.
