New England Conservatory Presents Sound Encounters 2007 Performance
Workshops for Contemporary Music from June 13 to 17 - Faculty Includes
Clarinetist Michael Norsworthy, Violist Carol Rodland, Composer Kenji
Bunch and Other Distinguished Music Educators

New England Conservatory will present Sound Encounters 2007, a performance
workshop for contemporary music, as part of their Summer School programs,
from June 13 to 17 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Co-Artistic Directors Michael Norsworthy, clarinet, and Carol Rodland,
viola, will be joined by Kenji Bunch, composer in residence, Ariadne
Daskalakis, violin, Scott Kluksdahl, cello, Renee Krimsier, flute and
Max Levinson, piano for an intensive performance workshop exploring 20th
and 21st century music.  The seminar will open on June 13 with a faculty
concert featuring the music of Kenji Bunch along with works by Elliott
Carter, Salvatore Sciarrino and Kaija Saariaho.  Participants will receive
daily coachings and masterclasses with members of the faculty on selected
solo and chamber music repertoire culminating in two student concerts
on Sunday, June 17 at 12 noon and 3 PM. The repertoire will encompass a
broad range of contemporary chamber and solo music with special emphasis
on the works of Kenji Bunch, who will offer a Friday evening lecture in
addition to coachings on his music throughout the workshop.

All concerts and the Friday evening lecture are free and open to the
public.

A dedicated and persuasive champion of the music of our own time, Michael
Norsworthy has given premieres of over 80 works in collaboration with
composers Harrison Birtwistle, Elliott Carter, Brian Ferneyhough, Michael
Finnissy, Lukas Foss, Hans Werner Henze, Magnus Lindberg, Ralph Shapey
and Marc Anthony Turnage, among many others.

As soloist, Michael Norsworthy has performed an extensive repertoire of
concerti, ranging from Mozart to Ferneyhough, with the Aspen Contemporary
Ensemble, Callithumpian Consort, NEC Contemporary Ensemble, Pottstown
Symphony, Soria Chamber Players, Southern Illinois Symphony and Symphony
Pro Musica, while audiences have heard his numerous recitals in Boston,
Cambridge, Chicago and St.  Louis.  He has also collaborated with Tony
Arnold, Patrick Demenga, Stephen Drury, Aleck Karis, John Zorn, the
Borromeo String Quartet, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the Boston Modern
Orchestra Project.  Conductors he has worked with include Boulez, DePriest,
Knussen, Levine, Muti, Robertson, Ozawa, Tilson Thomas and many others.
Michael Norsworthy plays on Buffet Clarinets and mouthpieces by Kalmen
Opperman.
