That is some self-control.

One of the great miracles of the brain is its ability to filter.  If you've
ever wondered why, when you walk or jog, the images you see don't bounce
around as they do when you watch video footage taken by a running or
walking camera man, it's because of filtering.

If our brains processed every sound that we heard, without disposing of
the redundant and unecessary input, we would go mad.  (Dave, are you going
mad yet?) Perhaps this is why Cage specified the Concert Hall for this
particular piece.
