Thanks for sharing that find.  I just listened to the Bacchanale.  It has
a theme that is strikingly similar to a theme in the finale of Mahler's
5th.  I can't answer your question, however.

I enjoy finding examples where Mahler (apparently) borrowed from other
composers.  Someone told me about a comic strip from Mahler's time, that
showed Mahler carrying a stack of music scores from various composers.
Someone asked him what he was doing with the scores, and he replied, "I'm
going to write a symphony".
