You've been misinformed.  That was the Bournemouth Sinfonietta (the touring
chamber orchestra offshoot of the full BSO).  It's a sad loss, but not as
bad as losing the whole thing would be.  That's been on the cards for much
longer than just one year, but it hasn't happened yet.

Incidentally, I grew up in Poole (just next to Bournemouth and,
Confusingly, where the BSO is now based), and I owe most of my interest
in classical music to their concerts.  I haven't lived down there for many
a long year and I no longer keep close contact, but my memory is that the
demise of the Bournemouth Sinfonietta was announced just a few months ago,
not over a year.  But I may be wrong about that.
