March Classical CD Reviews

We are celebrating that in January 55,000 of you visited the site 146,000
times and looked at over 1 million pages. This is wonderful although we
are now exceeding the daily bandwidth permitted by our ISP so can I please
encourage you to buy more discs though our partner links to help defray the
increased server charges. There is a Press Release on the site.

March will see the launch of International Record Review - a rival to
Gramophone. This will be available in selected record stores but further
details and a subscription form can be found on our CD reviews page.

We welcome yet more reviewers in this issue and the site contributors will
soon total 100. This month we have made it much easier for you to access
the reviews (just two mouse-clicks). We are carrying, in addition to the
normal reviews, in-depth surveys of recordings of the symphonies of Holmboe
(BIS), Alwyn (Chandos) and Rubbra (Chandos). These major surveys include
multiple reviews and much biographical material. For those looking for
rare repertoire we also have surveys of the Portuguese composer Fernando
Lopes-Graca and the obscure Russian composer Sergei Bortkiewicz. Tony
Duggan continues his survey of Mahler recordings with the Ninth Symphony.
Among the other reviews search out the Naxos 2000th issue which is a
further reworking by Anthony Payne of Elgar's Third symphony conducted
here by Paul Daniel, a superb mp3 downloadable Shostakovich piano Trio No 2
by the Serafino Trio and the Lindsays playing Haydn. We also look at two
recommendable Mahler Song of the Earth recordings released by the BBC - one
of which has Janet Baker and is a snip at 5. And at last you can see what
we think of Charlotte Church! We carry the usual mix of specialist British
music and other exceedingly rare repertoire.

Finally we want to know what you think. There is a (long) questionnaire on
site. You do not need to answer all the questions but please give plenty
of detail in those that you do answer. The majority of replies received so
far are of the yes/no variety which does not help us to understand what you
think of and want from this site.

Regards
