Molloy College's Modern Language Department and the Freeport Hispanic
Association, Inc. present internationally acclaimed pianist Marianela
Santurio in recital on Friday, February 15 at 8 PM at Molloy College's
Hays Theatre, 1000 Hempstead Avenue, Rockville Centre, New York.

Ms. Santurio's selections will include music by Bach, Chopin, Granados,

Marianela Santurio's diverse and elegant artistry as a pianist has earned
her international acclaim. An unusual combination of gifts and a broad
repertoire from the classics to the contemporary has brought her wide
acclaim as an ambassador of today's music. Ms. Santurio has collaborated
with contemporary composers, offering new works from America, Cuba and
Spain, including contemporary Cuban composers such as Tania Leon and
Alfredo Diez Nieto. A recent guest of the University of Malaga, Ms.
Santurio was the Director of a piano festival there where she received
national recognition and praise for her eloquence and teaching principles.
A frequent guest of the Queen Sofia Center for the Diffusion of
Contemporary Music in Madrid, the Juan March Foundation, the Mexican
Consulate in Asturias, the University of Axarquia, the Center of European
Superior Studies (CESS), Santurio is praised by the press as "an ultimate
specialist in Cuban music". At her performance during the Festival in
Segovia, Spain, various composers that Santurio has premiered, such as
Consuelo Diez and Flores Chaviano were present and rewarded her with a
standing ovation.

A great believer in the words of her mentor Claudio Arrau, "We never stop
learning, our life is a fountain of knowledge that must be continuously
fed", Santurio receives coaching from German Diez, a disciple of Arrau.
An exponent of the Spanish classical masters as well, Santurio has received
high praise for her interpretations of Granados, Albeniz, and rarely
performed Spanish masterpieces such as the Chopin Variations by Mompou.

Living in New York, Ms. Santurio is a frequent writer for Spain's MUNDO
CLASICO magazine, the first classical music magazine on the Internet.
