IBLA Foundation and the World Piano Teachers Associates Conference Present
Grammy-Nominated Pianist Joshua Pierce Performing Michael Harrison's
"Revelation" - April 10 Performance at Faust Harrison Pianos in New York

New York, NY (April 5, 2005)- The World Piano Teachers Associates
Conference in New York, presented in cooperation with the Ibla Foundation,
will culminate with a full-length performance by Grammy-nominated pianist
Joshua Pierce of the complete score of Michael Harrison's "Revelation"
for Harmonically Tuned Piano on April 10 - 8 PM at Faust Harrison Pianos,
205 West 58th Street, between 7th Avenue and Broadway in New York City.

This performance is free and open to the public. For directions or other
information, please contact Faust Harrison Pianos at (212) 489-0666 or
visit them online at http://www.faustharrisonpianos.com/.

"Revelation" is an epic ninety-five-minute work composed in thirteen
sections. Although it is scored using standard notation with traditional
key signatures, the pitches sound very different from what one would
normally expect, creating a new musical language. However, the score
reflects every rhythmic, dynamic and directive marking that would occur
in any work using standard notation. The ongoing working collaboration
between Joshua Pierce and Michael Harrison has yielded several nuances
that new works of this magnitude rarely achieve. The score reflects
every notation and developmental change since its inception, including
the tempi, dynamics and performance techniques that were directly given
to Pierce by Harrison during dozens of coaching sessions, rehearsals and
after performance critiques.

Joshua Pierce has given several performances of "Revelation" in its
previous form throughout the New York region, including a recent concert
on the World Music Institute's Interpretations series at Merkin Hall to
an enthusiastic and appreciative audience. This past summer of 2004 he
performed an earlier version in East Hampton, New York. Joseph Shaw of
the Southampton Press had this to say about Pierce's performance, "On
stage at Guild Hall, the pianist's technical brilliance was on display,
but so was the emotional quality he brings to his interpretations.
Visibly and, more importantly, audibly, he was deeply connected to the
music he played." Visit him online at http://www.jamesarts.com/pierce/.

Michael Harrison, following a lifelong study of both Western classical
and North Indian classical music, has forged "a new harmonic world" (The
New York Times). In 1986, he designed and created the "harmonic piano,"
an extensively modified grand piano with the ability to alternate between
two different tunings to play 24 notes per octave on a conventional
keyboard. Kyle Gann, in The Village Voice, hailed the harmonic piano
as "a landmark in the history of Western tuning." Once a protege of
composer La Monte Young, Harrison prepared all of the specialized tunings
for Young's 6-1/2 hour seminal work The Well-Tuned Piano, and became the
only other person to ever perform the work. For the past 25 years,
Harrison has performed his own music throughout the United States and
Europe. Visit him online at http://www.michaelharrison.com/.
