Bob Draper may have overlooked my longish posting on Beethoven's 9th
symphony, in which I outlined the particular merits of Furtwangler's 1954
Lucerne performance on Tahra. It was this recording which fully turned
me on to the work, particularly the last movement, and I still think it
would be difficult to find a more powerful and moving realization of the
symphony. I was lucky to hear it over the radio - the disc is expensive -
about $24 US in NZ - but it's worth every penny. It's in good sound, and
I think you also get the bonus of an interview with F.
