Ralf Gothoni, the magnificent Finnish pianist, winner of the prestigious
Gilmore Prize (the one that pianists win without entering - judges go
incognito to hear various contestants, who don't even know they've been
nominated, and then spring their decision on the winner), has been named
the new conductor of the English Chamber Orchestra, celebrating its 40th
anniversary.
