Well, Ian.  I agree with you entirely.  The only thing I would add that is
if anyone does not accept that definition of music, they are just making
life difficult for themselves and others.  But I do think that everyone
does know instinctively what is music and, whether they like it or not,
that definition covers anything that can be reasonably called music.
