Sometime ago EMI and Bertelsmann started merger talks.  In a world with
AOL-Time Warner - which EMI had wanted to sell itself to - mergers seemed
the only course.  But now "regulatory approval" is blamed for preventing
merger talks from going foward.

However, this makes no sense, there have been no signs of any significant
hurdles in either the EU or the US - the two most significant regulatory
areas.  Bet that the real reason was that they could not come up with a
deal that fed all the egos.
