Prices are relatively high for NEW CDs in France, but a secondary market
is developing. At the intersection of Rue. Vaugirard and Rue. M. Le
Prince, you can find La Chaumiere (I may have the gender wrong), one of
the best used classical CD shops in the world. It was founded a few years
ago by an Englishman, who intelligently realized that the intense and
sophisticated musical life of Paris made it an ideal location for such a
business. The shop now has a large stock, very good on both early music
and modern music; and reasonable prices, lower in particular than Harold
Moores across the Channel.
