Yesterday my girlfriend and I watched The Remains of the Day, the
terrific Merchant-Ivory movie with Hopkins and Thompson in the roles of
a lifetime.  In one scene a blonde German Walkure charms an Appeasement
Lord with a Lied, it is Sei mir gegrusst by our friend Schubert, played
by Graham Johnson, sung by Ann Murray (I learned this from the credits).
Now I wished the producers had chosen Wagner when Nazis sing but it is
a sad fact when butchers sometimes listen to the most humane music...
