Here are some new CD releases which look tempting:

Cesar Cui....Piano Preludes - Jeffrey Biegel - Naxos 5557(from M.Polo)
Erik Satie.. Piano Music - Aldo Ciccolini - EMI 74534(5cds)
Beethoven....Diabelli Variations - Buchbinder - Warner Apex 40649
Beethoven....Piano Sonatas - Ivan Moravec - Supraphon 3582
Bach.........Solo Cello Suites - Ophelie Gaillard - Ambrosie 9905/06
Schubert.....Piano Sonatas D 794/958 - Paul Lewis - HM 911755
Sweelinck....Keyboard Works - Ton Koopman - Philips 468417(4cds)
Bach.........Goldberg Variations - Martin Becker - CPO 999831
Haydn........Piano Sonatas - Alain Planes - HM 901761
Scelsi.......Music for High Winds - Mode 102
Reger........Works for Clarinet & Piano - Hanssler 93035
Taneyev......String Quartets - Krasni Qt. - Olympia 697
Beethoven....Complete String Quartets - Vegh - Music & Arts 1084
G. Coates....String Quartets - Kreutzer Qt. - Naxos 9091
L. Salzado...Chamber Works - Archaeus Qt. - Dutton Labs 7113
Louis Glass..Symphonies - Danacord 542 & 543
Mozart.......Piano Concertos No. 21/24 - Anderszewski - Virgin 45504
E. Tubin.....Symphonies 4/7 - Volmer - Alba 155

The one I'm most looking forward to is Martin Becker's Goldbergs. He did
such fine work in his series on Thorofon of Reger piano works. The Scelsi
disc is really music for high-maintenance guys.

There are some other releases which make me chuckle a little:

It's been a long time since Angela Gheorghiu gave us a cameo disc. The
latest is on EMI and titled "Live from Convent Garden". You could stack
an entire library with her stuff.

It's movie time again with Andre Previn's new disc for DG of three Korngold
scores made famous by Mr. Flynn, one of the greatest leading men in film
history.

Another Volodos disc from Sony of Schubert piano works. As the New York
Times states, "Volodos is a phenomenon". The best newspaper in the world
has the scientific evidence available upon request.

We have a family affair from Hyperion with "Songs My Father Taught Me"
featuring Thomas Allen singing songs his father loved. In my case it would
have to be "Instruments My Father Taught Me". Sounds like a varied program
although it might be a little weak on execution.

Finally, my disc cover of the month - "Awadagin Pratt and the St. Lawrence
String Quartet Play Bach". Every color on the disc reminds me of the evil
stuff that comes out of us when we're very sick. Yes, it's crude but
evocative.
