Dear Colleagues, It is my sad task to report the death of Maestro Ronald
Roseman this past Thursday. Mr. Roseman was one of the world's greatest
oboists, a fine composer and a true gentleman. Formerly the principal
oboist of the New York Philharmonic, Mr. Roseman also played in the New
York Woodwind Quintet, and was oboist of the Bach Aria Group.

Ronnie was a kind and wonderful man who loved music and loved even more to
share it with others. As a teacher, he was unsurpassed. He taught at Yale
and Juilliard among other fine institutions. I had the honor of working
with him as an artist fellow of the Bach Aria Group in 1997. Mr. Roseman
later invited me to perform one of his song cycles in San Salvador which
established an important relationship both professionally and personally
for me.

He loved to compose music, especially for his friends, and there were
hundreds of friends. He was never harsh with his students, only patient
and caring, delighted at their progress and proud of their accomplishments.
The man knew not the meaning of ego or pretention.

The community of musicians has lost a great friend and colleague, and the
orchestra of heaven has gained a new principal oboist. I know that I shall
miss Ronnie as will hundreds of others. He is survived by his wife of many
years and two children.

Requiescant in Pacem Ronnie. We love you!
