I didn't mention Beecham because Ralf wanted high sound quality
recommendations, but Beecham is my favorite Sibelius conductor, period.
Oh, if only, if only he'd recorded the 3rd and the 5th and the 4 Legends,
and if only that NYPO 7th didn't have the worst sound in the world (yes
I do have the Dutton transfer)...Beecham + Sibelius= Gieseking + Debussy
for sheer magic, as far as I'm concerned! Where else can we go for
Sibelius-approved recordings of the 4th and 6th? (God, that 6th, what a
beauty!) I might as well make my plea... if ANYONE can direct me to a
copy of Beecham's live Sibelius 2 on EMI with the BBC Orch, part of their
Beecham Edition I think, I would be just utterly beholden. It hasn't
turned up anywhere on the web for me.
