The Ives-like movement of Biber's "Battaglia" is often explained as several
drunken and/or wounded soldiers singing at once.  Just goes to show that
not all of the auditory green eggs and ham dishes (if you'll bear with my
mixed metaphor, please) were cooked up after 1925.
