I regret to inform readers that Elizabeth Hawes, a former member of this
list who made many friends while a subscriber, has died after a long
struggle with leukemia.  Elizabeth, a life-long enthusiast of many types
of classical music -- especially Strauss's Four Last Songs, all of Mahler
and Puccini, and lately the Lord of the Rings in both its cinematic and
musical forms -- had a warmth that made itself felt to her many friends
who knew her only in cyberspace, like me.  She will be missed.
