I hope Ulvi doesn't mind if I add Swallisch on EMI to the "covered
for eternity" list. It is stiff competition, but new recordings of the
symhonies keep coming out; I recently noticed that Marriner has his second
cd out on Hanssler which completes his traversal of the Schumann
symphonies.

I don't have any problem with an active conductor who loves a work, no
matter how frequently recorded, wanting to perform and record it for
posterity. But, that recording, in order to have any long-term viability
needs to be a very good one indeed.
