Season - "Playing With Time" on Monday, April 9

New York, NY - American Accent, in order to introduce New York audiences
to its marvelous new concert series, is offering a special $5.00 ticket
discount to Classical Music List subscribers who come to the second
concert of its debut season, Playing With Time on Monday, April 9, 2001
- 8 PM at Merkin Concert Hall at the Abraham Goodman House, 129 W. 67th
St. in Manhattan.

Music to be performed will include Penka Kouneva's String Quartet No. 1,
Joan Tower's Tres lent for cello and piano and Platinum Spirals for solo
violin, Olivier Messiaen's Le Merle Noir for flute and piano, Morton
Gould's Patterns #1 and #7 and Prelude and Toccata, all three for solo
piano. The concert will also feature songs by Charles Ives, Amy Beach
and Judith Lang Zaimont.

Performers for this concert will be American Accent's core ensemble -
pianist Joanne Polk, the Lark Quartet, flutist Linda Chesis and soprano
Maria Jette

American Accent is a New York City-based performance group dedicated to
world-class performances that present the vitality and enormous breadth
of American chamber music of the 20th Century and beyond. Their intent
is to survey the richness and many personalities of America's composers,
and to present their music at center stage. Founded by composer Judith
Lang Zaimont and pianist Joanne Polk, American Accent focuses on repeat
performances of major works by primarily American composers of the
present moment and recent past. The core ensemble are visionary artists
passionately connected to the music of their own time.

Their 2001-2002 second season, whose concerts are entitled Romance - Text
and Subtext and Acting Out, will feature music by Samuel Barber, Shulamit
Ran, George Rochberg, Bernard Rands, Augusta Read Thomas; George Antheil,
Chen Yi, George Crumb, Jennifer Higdon, William Bolcom and Judith Lang
Zaimont.

Tickets for the April 9 concert, with the discount, are $15 each
(discounted from the usual $20 price).  Senior Citizen and Student discount
