David Harbin responds to Ray Bayles:

About 15 years ago I noticed an ad in the small ads of the local paper
(don't know why I was looking at the sa, I almost never do) when I saw
an ad which read something like "large collection of classical LPs for
sale".

Made an appointment to see the guy the next evening; he was a retired
pathologist with a dicky heart and had to "downsize" from his house to
a flat. He had decided that he could keep his CDs but had to lose the
LP collection.

He also didn't want to sell it in dribs and drabs, so, in order to
encourage bulk purchasing, he was asking 50 cents (Cdn) for each LP.

It was a simple decision: I ploughed through his collection grabbing
anything I didn't already own.

I left his house a happy man, $375 poorer and with the back of my honda
civic overflowing.

I'm still working my way through this collection...

By the way, while chatting the man revealed that he had attended the
first Edinburgh Festival in 1947 and had indeed witnessed the legendary
Ferrier/Walter Das Lied...
