Well, I suppose that Dr. Breiling had recent works in mind, so let me
first quote very promising symphonies completed in the last ten years, and
unrecorded as yet to my knowledge (please let me know if I am mistaken):
Jan Hanus' 7th symphony (1990), Nicolai Karetnikov's 6th (1990), Julius
Juzeliunas' 6th "of the Proverbs" (1991), Alojz Ajdic's 3rd for percussion
and symphony orchestra (1996), Nguyen-Thien Dao's Giao-Hoa Sinfonia (1997,
I heard the world premiere on the radio), Osvaldas Balakauskas' 4th (1998,
mentioned by Peter Lundin a while ago), Natasa Danilovic's "Horror Vacui"
(1998, a one-movement symphony, or maybe the first part of a symphony in
progress, a most remarkable and gripping work), and Atli Heimir Sveinsson's
1st (1999).

Now, if we turn to older works which should have been recorded long ago and
are not available as yet, the list would be endless! For instance, I have
eagerly awaited a release of many a highly praised symphony (for instance
in the New Grove...) for years. I started to list even the most tempting
ones, but had to give in, for it would have added up to a depressingly long
message. If other listers are interested, I shall send some ideas later.
And I had not even taken into account works which were once available on
LP-records and still cry out for CD reports or new versions.

Best wishes,

Thanh-Tam Le
