Cypress String Quartet To Present World Premiere Of Benjamin Lees' Quartet
No. 6 - December 4 Performance at Le Petit Trianon in San Jose, California

The Cypress String Quartet will present the World Premiere performance
of Benjamin Lees' Quartet No. 6 at 7 PM on Sunday, December 4, 2005 at
Le Petit Trianon, 72 North 5th Street in San Jose, California.  Also on
the program are works by Barber, Respighi and Debussy.  The concert is
presented by the San Jose Chamber Music Society.

Lees' Quartet was commissioned by the Cypress String Quartet and is in
four movements.  His String Quartet No. 5 was named one of 101 'Great
American Ensemble Works' by Chamber Music America.

The Cypress String Quartet has performed to great acclaim at prominent
venues worldwide, including appearances at the Kennedy Center, the
Chautauqua Institute, the Ravinia Festival, and Stanford Lively Arts.
Quartet members Cecily Ward &Tom Stone, violins; Ethan Filner, viola;
and Jennifer Kloetzel, cello, have been widely celebrated for their
virtuoso performances, innovative programming and sincere dedication to

"assured, mature and thorough" interpretations of the classical repertoire,

Benjamin Lees' Symphony No. 5, "Kalmar Nyckel" was nominated for a 2003
Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Composition by the National Academy
of Recording Arts and Sciences.  He was the first recipient of a Fromm
Foundation award for his String Quartet No. 1 and Sonata for Two Pianos.
His works have been commissioned, performed and recorded by, among others,
the Tokyo Quartet, Aurora Quartet, Sea Cliff Chamber Players, New York
Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago Symphony,
NBC Symphony, Vienna Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra,
Houston Symphony, National Symphony, Dallas Symphony, San Francisco
Ballet, American Symphony, Delaware Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony,
Louisville Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo and Portland
