Jan Templiner:

>Robert von Bahr claims that good things must have a price, first because
>of their cost and second because otherwise we'd appreciate them less.
>(Strongly simplified, but IMO to the point.)

There is no quarreling with the cost of production, but the second claim
always bemuses me. Some of the things I have appreciated most--including
concerts and recordings--have cost me nothing. Some things I have paid
a lot for I do not appreciate at all, because they have been disappointing.
The BIS recordings I most appreciate--and they have mostly cost me the
same price--are valued by me on account of the performances and repertoire.
If the price were lower I would undoubtedly have more of them.
