This afternoon I was listening to public radio on my Walkman and heard
something called "Variations on a Korean Folk Song" by John Barnes Chance
(1932-1972). I thought it a very fine piece but that's not the reason for
my post.

The "folk song" itself is something I learned from my law school room mate,
who had done his military service in Japan and Korea, and was called, I
believe, "Kari Dam". Of course I can't vouch for the transliteration. He
described this to me as a song about Korean (political?) prisoners on their
way to execution.

Can anybody reading this verify what I recall having been told?
