Bob Draper:

>Hot-housing thus has a destructive effect on the subject. The child

>but can't produce anything new. The composer (Mozart) grows to produce
>excellent counterpoint but is stuck forever with the styles of others.
>Both no nothing else. They have not be taught to think merely emulate

Even if this opinion on Mozart's lack of individual style were true (I
do not think it is) the comparison with child mathematicians goes too far.
Solving complex differential equations is not mathematics or computer
programs doing that are mathematicians. And there is no computer program
imitating Mozart compositions without input based on analysis of his style.

Satoshi Akima:

>...the famous lines uttered by Glenn Gould come to mind that the real
>shame was not that he died too early but that he didn't die soon enough!

This well-known quotation, concerning Mozart's early versus mature piano
sonatas should not have induced a 'Gould_fans-Mozart_fans war' (Jocelyn
Wang, Kevin Sutton). These words were only Gould's way of expressing
his opinion on what he thought was a step back in Mozart's art: passing
from early, baroquish (piano) compositions to 'mature' ones. Nothing
extraordinary for GG - master and devotee of contrapuntal music. No reason
for comparisons of talents (Gould vs. Mozart). You may agree with Gould's
opinion or not, but his music is a separate thing.

By he way:

I like Mozart.
I like Gould.
I dislike Gould playing Mozart.
