While browsing online at my favorite online store, I came across a SACD
CD, which I have immediately ordered just from sheer curiosity. It was
a SACD transfer by Sony from a 1974 quadrophonic (quadraphonic?) recording
of Bach's of "Great Toccatas and Fugues" simultaneously performed by E.
Power Biggs on four organs. at the cathedral of Freiburg in Germany.
I must admit I was pleasantly impressed, not only by Biggs's playing but
by the clarity of SACD and the warmth of the organs. This recording
requires SACD-compatible hardware. When listed to in stereo, the rear
organs are incorporated into the front speakers. I hope that the SACD
format continues to be accepted because I am getting more and more
impressed with it.
