At a news conference Wednesday in Salzburg, the Philadelphia Orchestra
announced a partnership with www.andante.com for broadcasting concerts on
the Web. Philadelphia joins the London Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna
Philharmonic as Andante's founding artistic partners. Additional contracts
are expected with theSalzburg Festival, Berlin Philharmonic, and several
American orchestras, but no specific organizations are identified yet.

Weekly internet broadcasts from Philadelphia begin in the 2001-2002 season,
featuring performances from the new Verizon Hall, in the Kimmel Center for
the Performing Arts. Live and "on-demand" streaming on the Andante Website
will be accompanied by concert-related editorial content and reference
material. File downloading capability is anticipated at a future date,
the announcement said, "once technologies are developed that will ensure
adequate copyright protection."
