A couple of things stick out like a sore thumb here:

1) Isn't late June a tad late for swarms in coastal MA?

2) Since when does a swarm fly around as a group in
   several yards?

3) Since when has a swarm stung anyone but the most
persistent idiot who directly assaults the bees?

4) "Several hours"? Since when do swarms fly around
   for that long?

5) Where was the normal swarm behavior of settling on
   a branch?

6) No one mentioned a "roaring" sound, and this is
what is most noticed by civilians near hives
   that swarm.

7) What's the furthest anyone's seen a swarm settle
on a branch from the parent hive? A hundred yards?

8) The photo of the man and his dog shows no swelling
or welts on a man who was purposively stung 10 or
   12 times "on the head".

9) Amazing that no one visited the emergency room after
being stung multiple times, isn't it?

If there were a recently-arrived swarm of AHB (like the
one that came to VA in a boxcar years ago) that set
up housekeeping nearby, then these incidents might
seem more plausible, but if this were the case, the
incidents would continue.

I think that the bees are being subjected to the
sort of hysterical witch hunt for which Salem is
well-known.

I suspect that the "local beekeeper" certainly will
be subjected to a witch-hunt. Anyone know any
beekeepers in Salem, MA?
