The point of the "ant experiment" is to show that:

1) It's real, not imaginary
2) It's not something commonly seen before
3) It's not something trivial
4) Some kind of half assed test
5) It's kind of lonely saying what I have been saying, a little confirmation would be welcomed
(or disagreement if that is how it turns out, but only from those who are "hands-on")
