>AMM are much maligned! Once, with Sue Cobey and A.N.Other we opened a hive of Irish AMM at Gormanston so she could show us how she persuades drones to ejaculate.  None of us had any protective clothing or a smoker and the bees just ignored us.

Agree absolutely.  I just do not know why this myth is being perpetuated.  Pure A.m.m. we find to be very docile and can often be worked without a veil - if you do not believe it try a visit to Galtee.
Hybrids of A.m.m. with other races can be a very different matter.
