Thanks much Dave,
Since I posted I have had a chance to do a bit more research.   There is a
site that, in book form( probably is a book book too!) that examines hive
products.  The book describes an oil extraction method that I will try as
well as other methods requiring way more expertise and chemistry lab
equipment than I will ever want.

I will post the results if anyone is interested.
