John Sessions asks:
> Can anyone advise on the use of treated wood for bottom
boards? Have not used any yet, but I have a couple of extra
sheets of Pressure treated plywood I would like to try if it
is not harmful to the bees.<

Ask at your lumber yard for the sheet on pressure treated wood (they won't
usually give it to you unless you ask). The last time I read it (several
years ago), it specifically warned against use, where ever it would be in
contact with bees.
On the other hand I am acquainted with beekeepers who have used it for
years with no apparent problems. I think there are more than one
preservative used, and it might depend on which one.
I have been cautious, so I haven't used it for hive parts. It doesn't
seem to harm the bees, but I wonder about the copper compounds contaminating
honey.
