Thanks for that Joe.  Funny, but have been in an off-list discussion of that very thing for the past few days and I find it very timely.  Great minds think alike, I guess.  (That's an expression).

This approach is interesting now, because after ignoring HYG possibilities forever, the focus seems to have shifted almost exclusively to HYG and the surrogate test using nitrogen.  

At one time, hygienic behaviour was the most promising avenue apparent, but that approach has its limits.  For one thing, excessive HYG leads to poor brood viability and limited build-up, especially in the presence of challenge from AFB spores.  Other resistance attributes can limit that effect.
