well ... this is interesting but why does the list not follow the practice used by other boards?  That practice is to identify your IP address.  An IP address in many countries is reasonably specific and so is often good enough for approximate geographic location.  

IP address identification can also be automated and added to every post dynamically (according to where you are when making that post).  I have not played with the administration side of this list software and so do not know what is built into the features / functionality but the solution may be as easy as checking a box in the settings...
