That's one of the hallmarks of so many of these new age disciplines: they have no interest in history, not even the history of their own discipline. I regard this as a form of intellectual slovenliness, but beyond that: people who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it. 

As I have said before, science owes a debt to art and art owes a debt to science. Science without art can be a drab accumulation of data, while art without science can lead to childish fantasy worlds. As a scientist, I regard science fiction as entertaining, but real science has lasting value.

But I am puzzled most when intelligent people adopt these touchy feely philosophies. They seem entirely willing to throw their brains in a basket and go with the flow. Perhaps there is another motivation: they are looking for romantic involvement?
