A plea to all those writing on the subject of winter preparations:
 
Please include your geographic location in your posts.   Probably no part of
beekeeping is more location-specific that winter prepartion.    What Allen
Dick has to do in Alberta is drastic overkill in Maryland, and likewise my
Maryland hives probably wouldn't make it through January in Alberta.
 
Giving geographic locations will help readers decide if what you are doing
 makes sense for them.
