Oof! Of course, people adapt. That's why we assume everything else in the Universe is adapting. But our intelligence is allowing us to do things that evolution could not have produced.  (It produced the intelligence, of course, but it doesn't dictate what we will do with it just like having a pencil does not control what I might write). We have the ability to construct a mental picture of plausible scenarios and influence their outcome, which evolution does not do. Human creativity is a miracle if there ever was one (some would say it's just another evolutionary solution to the problem of existence).
